Proposed Pecos River Ranch Bed and Breakfast – Val Kilmer

The Pecos River Ranch, which is the home of Val Kilmer in New Mexico, is becoming a flashpoint for controversy. The Pecos River Ranch is a several-thousand-acre ranch just outside of Santa Fe. Val Kilmer applied to try and turn the ranch into a bed and breakfast, and while the application was initially approved, it has been contested by the ranch’s neighbors. At a lot more than $ 200-per-night, per person, is the Pecos River Ranch even going to be a nice place to stay, or the center of controversy?

The history of the Pecos River Ranch

The Pecos River Ranch has had Val Kilmer living there for about 15 years. In 2009, Kilmer put the Pecos River Ranch on the market for about $ 33 million, but claimed he was not planning to move out. Instead, Val Kilmer said he wanted “a partner for an off-the-grid community”. The ranch borders seven miles of the Pecos River and contains everything from wildlife to trail systems.

Pecos River Ranch and Val Kilmer’s plan

After living on the Pecos River Ranch for a when, it appears that Val Kilmer has plans for the property. Val Kilmer applied for a bed and breakfast permit in March. On March 2nd, The county planning and zoning commission approved the application. Neighbor Abran Tapia appealed that decision, nevertheless. Tapia claims that Val Kilmer is “not a good neighbor” and deserves to have his application denied.

Is Val Kilmer really a bad neighbor?

The appeal of Val Kilmer’s application to turn Pecos River Ranch into a bed and breakfast is not depending on the merits of the application. Instead, neighbors are uncomfortable with Val Kilmer’s comments in the media. Specifically, rumors that Kilmer may be running for governor of New Mexico are flying for years. In news stories, though, Val Kilmer has said that Vietnam veterans were mostly “poor and criminals.” Kilmer has also said that he lives in the “homicide capital” of the United States. None of this, may have any kind of legal standing when it comes to deciding or blocking the Pecos River Ranch bed and breakfast.
