In Austin Texas, Car2Go is going official

Soon in Austin Texas, thanks to German company Car2Go, Texans can be seeing SmartCars in an entirely new light. The car-sharing service can be expanding the year-old pilot program to all city and state officials in Austin. Car2Go is a service in car-sharing that charges users by the minute of their SmartCars, a model that is apparently becoming popular in large cities.

How it works with Car2Go

A vehicle sharing system that places a large number of cars in an urban area is called Car2Go. Those who are “members” of Car2Go can use a intelligent card to rent cars by the minute. Car2Go cars can be picked up or dropped off within the Car2Go area. At only 35 cents per minute, these Car2Go cars can help up urban residents who don’t need a automobile but at times need to use one.

Car2Go or ZipCar

As an American company, founded in 2000, ZipCar is presently operating in 49 U.S. cities as well as in Toronto, London, and Vancouver. After acquiring Flexcar in 2007, ZipCar represents about 50 percent of car-sharing around the world. Both Cars2Go and ZipCars rely on their “members” to unlock and rent the cars. ZipCar also works with universities and businesses to help students and commuters part-time that want to have help sharing their vehicles.

The Benefits of sharing cars

Car2Go and ZipCar represent just two of the growing number of car-sharing services within the United States and around the world. Cities in the US such as Minneapolis-Saint Paul ,Minneapolis, Salt Lake City, Denver, New York City, Boulder, San Francisco, and Buffalo have all started a car-sharing business. These car-sharing systems reduce congestion, increase flexibility, and tend to be much a lot more environmentally friendly. Also, large companies such as Car2Go and ZipCar will use electric and hybrid cars which will increase the overall fuel efficiency for hundreds of people in each city.
